Ease of Cotton

August 01, 2018

Cotton has become the Fabric of our everyday lives, from sarees to kurtis, denim to PJ’s everybody prefers wearing this fabric not just for its colour or feel but for the array of options available in the market these days. The now known block print patterns, kalamkari designs etc. are the most preferred by Indians as it brings out the elegance along with the sophistication in them.  As people suggest, it’s not just a summer wear but the most luxurious of varieties available in Fashion as well as the textile industry.

It is believed that the desire for Cotton garments began during the British rule in the early 17th century. Though the Indian craftsmen created, devised and maintained the trade secret for years; due to the World Wars and the Britain’s invasion in India it soon spread across the Western Nations. It was in the middle- ages that cotton fabrics gained global importance, where the shift from hand-woven to processing the fabric in technology took place.

Post this shift; cotton mills came into existence and hand-loom weaving and cotton thread spinning became the major occupation and served a livelihood for a large part of the Indian population. Now in the 21st century, cotton garments are the most chosen outfit as the fabric eases and cools down the body condition and is known to be the best wear considering the environmental and the geographic conditions.

Cotton these days is available in wide varieties and varied qualities. And today cotton can be seen used in a lot of medical products, vastly in the garment industry, and the bedding items. Even the cotton seeds are used in Oil extraction which in turn is used for cooking and manufacturing cosmetic products, the bottom line therefore is that – Cotton fiber is a key and a sustainable element of every individual’s life and it is essential to cultivate this fiber, preserve and make the best use of it.
